With its clear structures and pioneering corporate philosophy, the Koehler Group has been an independent family company and a successful player in the market for more than 200 years, and is still evolving sustainably today. The Koehler Group has 7 paper machines and 1 board machine along with 5 biomass power stations, 2 onshore wind parks and 5 hydro-electric power plants.

Headquartered in Oberkirch, Germany with mills in Kehl, Greiz, and Weisenbach, around 1,800 people produce over 500,000 tonnes of specialty paper and board every year using the very latest technology.

Koehler Group’s extensive paper portfolio includes fine paper, coloured recycled paper, carbonless paper, thermal paper, decor paper and has recently introduced a new paper machine and coating line for flexible packaging grades.

The Koehler product line for flexible packaging paper, is called “NexFlex” and includes paper which is one-side coated as well as uncoated paper. For one-side coated paper, applications range from a wide variety of pouches and bags, to yogurt lids and banderoles, to metallization base paper. Uncoated paper is popular with consumers because they are suitable for a wide variety of applications. They also give a nice feel with their natural texture.

In addition to paper which is one-side coated and uncoated paper, the portfolio also includes paper with functional surfaces. This paper has smart coatings, providing barrier functions for flavors, steam, oil and grease and much more. The aim is, where it makes sense and is possible, to replace plastic packaging with paper and to show that an ecological necessity also makes economic sense.
